Welcome to this guide!

Automatic reminders, attendance tracking, automatic feedback, etc...

In this guide, you will learn how to use intelligent agents.

These intelligent agents are very useful for boosting learner engagement in your courses.

Intelligent agents

The Intelligent Agents tool monitors a course to search for activity that matches the criteria you have defined.

The criteria sought by the agents are connection activity, course activity and publishing conditions in Brightspace.

Step 1: Go to the courtyard

Once in the relevant course, in the navigation bar:

Click on Course Admin

Step 2: Course Administration

You are now on the course administration page.

Scroll down and click on " Intelligent Agents"

Step 3: Create an agent

Click on "New Agent"

Step 4: Configure the agent

Let's now get to the heart of the matter.

Fill in the different fields:

  • Agent name

  • A description to help you remember what this agent is for (optional)

  • Select or create a category (optional)

  • Check the "Agent is enabled" box only if you are sure of your agent settings!

Step 5: Agent Planning

Now set its frequency.

Step 6: The criteria

We will now inform our agent of the criteria that our participant must meet in order to be eligible.

  1. Role in classlist : Here, you need to determine who will be affected. For simplicity, we recommend choosing "Users with specific Roles," and then selecting the "Participant" role. This will prevent impacting any other potential course participants.

  2. Take action on activity : You can select the trigger criteria.

    • Criterion based on the student's login activity on Brightspace

    • Criteria based on access to your course

  1. For step 3 concerning release conditions, click Next.

Step 7: Release conditions

This step will allow you to determine which triggers will satisfy the activation of your intelligent agent.

Click on Create.

The main themes are addressed in the release conditions:

  • Notes (Grades)

  • Quiz completion (Quizzes)

  • Homework Submission (Assignments)

  • etc.

Step 8: Release conditions

Let's take an example, because it's always more telling!

We want to automatically send an email to students who have not yet submitted an assignment.

I create a release condition based on the Assignments: No submission to folder.

I then select the relevant Assignment .

Then I click on Create.

Step 9: Actions of the intelligent agent

We have provided the various criteria that our participant must meet in order to be included or not on the list of those concerned by our agent.

We will now configure the repetition. We have two options:

  • Trigger the agent only once if the criteria are not met.

  • The agent is triggered systematically until the criteria are met.

Finally, check the box: send an email when the criterion is met, then write the email.

Enter {InitiatingUser} in the Recipient field. This will allow the agent to send the email to participants who meet the criteria of your intelligent agent.

Finally, click on "Save and Close"
