What is social security?

The mandatory part: covered by Social Security

International students & exchange students who are nationals of the EU/EEA and Switzerland: you will need to provide proof of a European Health Insurance Card.
International students & exchange students who are not nationals of the EU/EEA and Switzerland: If you stay more than 3 months in France, you must register with social security upon arrival in France: https://etudiant-etranger.ameli.fr/#/ .

Social security is the French healthcare system, also known as CPAM ("Caisse Primaire d'Assurance Maladie"), managed by the official website ameli.fr . The healthcare system covers 70% of your medical expenses if you have enrolled.

Healthcare reimbursements in France can be divided into two parts:

If you are staying in France for less than 3 months, you must take out insurance of your choice that is valid in France for the entire duration of your stay.

Special cases for student nationals:

- From the United Kingdom: check if you are eligible for the Global Health Insurance Card
- From Quebec: you will need to present form SE 401 Q106 when registering with the CPAM
- From Andorra: you will need to provide the CPAM with the SE 130-04 certificate
- From Monaco: you will need to provide the CPAM with the coverage agreement issued by the Monegasque authorities.

Registration with the CPAM must be done after your administrative registration at emlyon business school, as your school certificate will be required.

Supplementary Health Insurance:

Social security affiliation only provides basic social coverage.
Supplementary health insurance provides better reimbursement than mandatory social security.
This coverage will cover, in whole or in part, the portion of costs not covered by social security.

If you do not have supplementary health insurance, we advise you to take out a supplementary contract offered by mutual insurance companies to improve your reimbursement rates.

The additional part: also called the "co-payment" which remains your responsibility (or that of your health insurance if you have subscribed to it)
